LCSA is a local charity responding to the needs of those patients with secondary liver cancer whose best chance of lasting cure is surgery together with chemotherapy.
Our aims are:
- To purchase vital pieces of diagnostic and surgical equipment for use in liver surgery. At the Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford, a surgeon who is trained in liver surgery, performs the operation known as a ‘liver resection' to remove tumours, some embedded deep in the liver. His technique and expertise allow him to remove up to two-thirds of the liver safely.
- To help educate by publishing a patient guide to treatment options for secondary liver cancer which is distributed through hospital clinics and GP surgeries.
- To record data from each patient undergoing liver surgery for research purposes.
- To set up an academic chair at the Post Graduate Medical School, University of Surrey.
