Since its inception £475,000 has been raised. Apart from the latest diagnostic and surgical equipment, a fulltime data entry clerk has been appointed for maintenance of records and follow up data on all patients undergoing liver surgery. We are looking for funding to start a research programme to investigate whether radio frequency ablation of operable liver tumours would produce the same long term result as open surgery for liver tumours.

In July, the Pro-am Golf Day was held at ‘Clandon Regis’ by courtesy of the Club’s President, Ian Mitchell. A director of Man Group plc, Colin Brumpton organised sponsorship of the whole event, the competing teams, auction prizes and a demonstration of impressive skills by a professional golfer. At the dinner Ian Mitchell, in the role of auctioneer, successfully raised £28,695 from the auction which contributed to the staggering amount of £70,000.

One of our loyal supporters chose a summer lunch for her annual event. In a delightful garden in Bramley, her neighbours gathered to enjoy a relaxing lunch on a sunny day whilst donating to the LCSA.

2C Appeal held at highly successful Ball at Gate Street Barn, a fashion show at the Inn on the Lake, a dinner dance at Charterhouse School with Bruce Forsyth providing the entertainment.  St Catherine's, St Hilary's and Aldro Schools all held events. One family are committed to the Appeal for personal reasons and have raised over £7,000 in a few months with plans to fundraise until the end of the year. The grandmother has organised raffles and is planning a champagne and pate lunch and a bridge drive - the mother has organised stalls at two Christmas fairs and named the Appeal as the recipient of a summer ball raffle and the daughter requested two chapel collections to be donated to the LCSA

On a warm June day, 92 people arrived mid-morning to enjoy a bridge session. In the garden coffee was served whilst players were invited to buy raffle tickets. A stall selling exquisite handmade scarves, cushions, cards etc, the Glove Trust, donated all proceeds of sale to the LCSA. Prizes were donated and the raffle drawn. A matched donation of £1,000 added to the £1550 raised making the magnificent sum of £2,550.

In November at Bisley, with the enormous support of Andy Castle, we had a fun and challenging day. The shooting superbly organised by Bisley Shooting Ground went without a hitch and delighted both novice and expert. After lunch our auctioneer, John Ledbury using his expertise succeeded in enticing bids from the guests in an entertaining way which resulted in a total of £7,000 towards the Appeal.
