Our local hospital, the Royal Surrey County Hospital, is a busy district general hospital with almost 500 beds. Its services include most of the acute specialities and it is known as a centre of excellence for its cancer services.
There are ten operating theatres, one is used for upper gastrointestinal surgery which includes the liver. Specialised nurses staff a large recovery room in the theatre suite. There are four intensive care unit beds and five high dependency unit beds.
As audio-visual link to the Royal College of Surgeons, which is a useful training medium, is accessed through the Minimal Access Therapy Training Unit in the Theatres Department.
